Associate Professor James Leong is a distinguished Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon with over 22 years of experience. He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne in 1990 and went on to become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002. In 2006, he completed his Master of Surgery at the University of Melbourne, further solidifying his academic and clinical expertise.
His commitment to advancing the field of surgery led him to undertake advanced training in microsurgery and research at the Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery in Melbourne. He also completed specialised fellowships in hand surgery and breast reconstruction at St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery in Essex, UK. These experiences, combined with his extensive academic background, make him one of the most respected figures in his field.
Associate Professor Leong has an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and his ground breaking research has been presented at numerous scientific conferences, both nationally and internationally. His work is highly regarded for its contribution to the fields of hand surgery, microsurgery, and reconstructive surgery.
In his private practice, he operates at Corymbia House Day Hospital and Mulgrave Private, where he offers a range of specialised services in hand surgery, facial reconstruction, microsurgery, skin cancer, and cleft lip and palate repair. He also holds the position of Head of Hands & Trauma in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Monash Health, where he leads a team of surgeons dedicated to providing top-tier care to patients with complex injuries and conditions.
Associate Professor Leong works closely with WorkCover and TAC patients, offering expert care for those dealing with workplace injuries and road traffic accidents.
